Not quite sure where to start, I took my first steps in a familiar direction. I’m working on assets for the game. Right now I’m thinking that since this is my first game, and I’m working on it by myself, AND I WANT TO FINISH IT! I’m going to keep it as simple as possible. So I’ve decided on 16×16 bit assets. Although the small size will be limiting, hopefully I’ll be able to turn the tiles out faster. One thing I noticed right away is that there is a fine line between detailed and muddy tiles! It’s all about readability!
I’ve been using Pyxel Edit so far for tile creation and I must say, it is really nice. Being able to set up multiple instances of the same tile side-by-side so that you can get the mirroring right is awesome and definitely speeds up the workflow.
I’m thinking that the game will be a platformer with some rpg elements. I’m kicking around some ideas right now. I’ll keep pushing out tiles in the mean time. If nothing else, it’s good practice!
Now I just need to decide on an engine..
